Duane Duke, MD

Prior to his arrival at CHKD in 2018, Dr. Duke served as a pediatric surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. His main duty station was Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

He is a combat veteran, having been deployed twice to Afghanistan and once to East Africa, where he provided battlefield trauma surgical care and far-forward immediate life-saving damage control surgery.

He continues to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.    

Dr. Duke grew up in Newark, DE. After completing a degree in civil engineering, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guinea, West Africa, where he taught high school calculus in French and oversaw the construction of a primary school and a health clinic. After returning from the Peace Corps, he was awarded a U.S. Army Health Professions scholarship to pursue his medical studies.

Dr. Duke, his wife, and their two rambunctious children live in Virginia Beach where they enjoy soccer, swimming, surfing, snowboarding, theater, and travel.
