Mark Freeman, MD

Dr. Mark G. Freeman specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip, knee, and shoulder including revision surgery, fractures, and orthopaedic infections. He has built a strong reputation for excellence with his ability to manage complex conditions, especially in the areas of primary and revision adult reconstructive surgery.

On an administrative level, Dr. Freeman also serves as Medical Director for Erlanger Health System’s orthopaedic program. In this role, he leads the orthopaedic providers across the system in areas of safety, quality, efficiency, and strategic growth. He recently served as Erlanger Chief of Orthopaedics and is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery for the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga. Dr. Freeman takes an active role in resident education serving as rotation chief of reconstructive surgery and arthroplasty. He was awarded the resident teaching award for the UT Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2007.

Dr. Freeman has served as a guest faculty member for many regional and national medical education meetings and collaborates with the medical device industry on a regular basis involving research, design, and clinical evaluation of orthopaedic implants. He also serves on the orthopaedic physician advisory board for a national health care company. He is board certified from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2008 and is actively involved in the maintenance of that certification.
