Steven B. Haas, MD
Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr. Steven B. Haas received his education and training at Harvard, Cornell and the University of Rochester. He is Chief of the Knee Service at Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Haas speaks extensively both nationally and internationally on knee topics, and has authored more than 100 publications in the orthopedic literature.
Dr. Haas received a United States patent for developing a groundbreaking surgical technique for performing minimally invasive knee replacement, which allows patients to recover more rapidly. He has been featured as a developer and expert on minimally invasive knee replacement on WNBC News, WCBS News, and NY1 News, as well as in a U.S. News & World Report photo essay "To Build a Knee," Runner magazine, the New York Daily News, and the Cleveland Clinic Newsletter. He performed a minimally invasive knee replacement surgery that was broadcast live via webcast and also covered by WCBS News via their Twitter feed.
Dr. Haas has received numerous patents for innovative High Performance Knee Replacement designs that move more naturally than previous knee implants. CBS News with Katie Couric and Sanjay Gupta featured a segment with Dr. Haas focusing on high performance gender-specific knee replacement. He has appeared on WABC News and in U.S. News & World Report as an expert on gender knee replacement.
Dr. Haas developed patient-matched techniques, which use computer-generated personalized instruments to accurately perform minimally invasive knee replacement. He appeared on WCBS News on custom knee replacements.
Cutting-edge technologies employed by Dr. Haas include robotic-assisted replacement, patient-specific instrumentation and accelerometer-based computer navigation. Dr. Haas also performs minimally invasive robotic-assisted partial knee replacement.
Advances in surgical techniques and pain control allow for more rapid recovery from knee replacement. As a result, many of Dr. Haas' patients are able to go home the same day of surgery. One of his patients who went home the same day was featured on WCBS News along with Dr. Haas.
