James O. Park, MD, FACS

James Park, MD, FACS, is a board-certified surgeon at UW Medical Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), Director of the UW Liver Tumor Clinic, Chair of the Robotic Steering Committee, Clinical Director of Surgical Specialties for the WWAMI Institute of Simulation in Healthcare, a core member of the SCCA Pancreas Cancer Specialty Clinic and a UW Associate Professor of Surgery.

Dr. Park’s clinical expertise is in minimally invasive surgery for diseases of the liver, pancreas and upper gastrointestinal tract including hepatocellular carcinoma, fibrolamellar carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, pancreas cancer, and metastatic tumors to the liver such as colorectal and breast cancer. Dr. Park leads the Liver Tumor Clinic, the longest running and highest volume multidisciplinary clinic of its kind in the Puget Sound region. He has extensive training in minimally invasive surgical techniques, and was the first to perform a robotic liver resection in the Pacific Northwest and first to perform a robotic Whipple procedure in Washington State. He believes there is no greater example of trust than a patient entrusting their life to the hands of a surgeon. Therefore, he treats, and teaches his trainees to treat, each patient as if they were family.

Dr. Park‘s translational research involves cutting-edge theranostics which uses nanotechnology to improve diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer. He believes if better imaging technology can be designed patients will be selected for surgery more effectively and the impact of the surgical procedures performed will be significantly improved.
