Miami Cancer Institute Achieves AAHRPP Accreditation

The Association for Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs has recognized Miami Cancer Institute for promoting ethically sound and safe human subject research practices.

Miami Cancer Institute has been awarded full accreditation by the Association for Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), after having completed the accreditation process with zero deficiencies. This is a significant achievement and a testament to our commitment to the highest standards in promoting ethically sound and safe human subject research practices.

The AAHRPP accreditation is a prestigious recognition that strengthens protections for research participants, advancing the objective of building public trust and confidence in research. This accreditation marks a momentous occasion for Miami Cancer Institute, as it is not just a recognition of our commitment to ethical standards but also an endorsement of the value we bring to the research community as a whole.

Miami Cancer Institute joins the ranks of more than 600 accredited research entities across the globe, including major U.S. independent institutional review boards and more than 85 percent of the top U.S. National Institutes of Health-funded academic medical centers.

The accreditation process involved a rigorous review and validation of Miami Cancer Institute's Human Research Protection Program policies and procedures against 65 accreditation elements. Our application included extensive documentation, as well as a site visit conducted by trained HRPP professionals from accredited organizations, to validate compliance with federal regulations and AAHRPP standards. Programmatic strengths noted in our accreditation report included the robust support for the research community, effective communication among HRPP components and the presence of a comprehensive quality program, including the innovative Quality, Risk and Education Committee.

“We are immensely proud to receive full accreditation from AAHRPP,” said Scott Lipkin, vice president for research at Baptist Health. “This accreditation not only elevates our standing in the broader research community but also sets the stage for a future at Baptist Health that continues to uphold the highest standards of ethical research, fostering innovation and positively impacting the landscape of healthcare and medical advancements.”

“This AAHRPP Accreditation is a testament to our collective dedication to advancing cancer research with the utmost ethical standards,” said Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute CEO and Executive Medical Director Michael J. Zinner, M.D. “It reaffirms our commitment to the safety and well-being of our patients involved in research. We are not just meeting expectations; we are setting new standards for excellence in the pursuit of groundbreaking discoveries.”
