Evolving and Expanding Indications for TAVR

Speaking to a meeting of cardiac surgeons, Wilson Szeto, MD, chief of cardiovascular surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center makes the case for expanding the indications for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in light of continuing improvements in the technology and the durability of repair. Dr. Szeto presents the evidence from more than 1000 TAVRs at Penn Medicine, discusses the foundations for the TAVR program, the constitution of the heart team, the indications for which TAVR is now appropriate and the expansion of those indications in the future for a variety of aortic disorders, including bicuspid aortic valve disease.
