In this video, Dr. Desai examines the presentation and surgical indications for emergent aortic trauma, including dissection, aneurysms and traumatic transection, and offers recommendations for bedside management and repair techniques in each type of injury. Dr. Desai also discusses the risks identified with aortic trauma (including bench-pressing and other sports) and reviews the Penn Aortic Rescue Paradigm, an algorithm designed at Penn Medicine to expedite patient transfer in aortic injury.
