Cardiac surgeon Pavan Atluri, MD, reviews the nContact ablation system for patients with large atria (>4.5 cm) and persistent atrial fibrillation who have failed other ablations. Currently available at Penn Medicine, the system allows surgeons to create comprehensive bi-atrial lesion patterns outside the heart under endoscopic visualization. An electrophysiologist then completes the procedure by performing catheter ablation from inside the atrium.
