Kristi Kratovil, M.D., discusses obesity and the increased risk of Covid-19 complications.
So my name's Kristi crowd of ill. I work at Santerre, a comprehensive weight loss center, as the very attrition and medical director for the medical weight loss program. These times are very uncertain. Uh, and co vid has changed everyone's priorities. Unfortunately, uh, weight loss may not seem like it should be a priority, and we should be prioritizing something else when really it's the opposite. Obesity is one of the risk factors for developing more problems as a result of Cove it more hospitalization time, lower survival rate. So sending patients over toe work with us in a medically supervised weight loss program is actually one of the best things a provider could do for their patient because they can now focus on how they're going to better their life. Um, and now that we're all home with our families, often we're seeing I'm seeing a lot of families come in together because, or I I want to be a better influence on my on my Children. I want to be a good role model. My Children suffer from overweight or obesity. Obesity is one of the risk factors that we need to be focusing on more rather than less
