YOUSEF HANNAWI: Hello, I'm Dr. Yousef Hannawi. I'm the interim director of the Stroke and Neurocritical Care division at Ohio State University and the medical director of the Neurocritical Care Unit at Ohio State University. And I'm an assistant professor of neurology at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Ohio State University is one of the comprehensive stroke centers in the United States. We have a multidisciplinary team that manage the telestroke network at Ohio State University that include nurses, directors, department of outreach, and physicians. And they work collaboratively with these sites to make sure that they are on top of everything and adhering to the new guidelines by the American Heart Association.

At the telestroke site, we have a robot, and the telestroke physicians have access to this robot. When the telestroke gets activated, the robots go to the-- we can drive the robot to the patient. And we can use the robot to examine the patient in collaboration with the nurses and the physicians at the outside hospital. And based on this examination, we decide whether we're going to administer the TPA if the patient is eligible to receive the therapy.

After arriving in our emergency department, the patient goes directly to the city angiography to evaluate whether they have a large vessel occlusion. In addition to that, we obtain CT perfusion imaging which then can be used to measure the infarct volume and the tissue at risk. And we can use that to decide whether the patients need to have thrombectomy and surgery. Our goal is to deliver the thrombolytic therapy in a timely manner to these patients who are presenting to all of these sites.
