Baptist Health South Florida is Nationally Recognized for its Commitment to providing High-Quality Stroke Care

MIAMI, FL – Baptist Health South Florida announces seven of its hospitals have earned the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® achievement award for demonstrating a commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.

The following hospitals received an award for stroke care and are supported by Baptist Health Brain & Spine Care, comprised of Miami Neuroscience Institute and Marcus Neuroscience Institute, which have brought some of the top treatments for stroke to South Florida:

  • Baptist Health Baptist Hospital
  • Bethesda Hospital East, part of Baptist Health
  • Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health
  • Baptist Health Fishermen’s Community Hospital
  • Baptist Health Mariners Hospital
  • Baptist Health South Miami Hospital

“Receiving the Get With The Guidelines awards from the American Heart Association underscores our commitment to excellence in stroke care”, said Felipe De Los Rios La Rosa, M.D., medical director of the stroke program for Miami Neuroscience Institute. “Our dedicated teams at Baptist Health strive to provide the highest quality treatment, ensuring that our patients in South Florida receive the best possible outcomes.”

Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack, and stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the nation. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts. When that happens, part of the brain cannot get the blood and oxygen it needs, so brain cells die. Early stroke detection and treatment are key to improving survival, minimizing disability, and accelerating recovery times.

“Being honored with the Get With The Guidelines awards highlights our relentless dedication to improving stroke care through advanced protocols and innovative treatments,” said Dr. Brian Snelling, medical director of the stroke program at Marcus Neuroscience Institute, established at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health South Florida. “Here at Baptist Health, we are committed to setting the standard for stroke care in South Florida, always prioritizing our patients’ health and recovery.”

Get With The Guidelines puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence and research-based guidelines. Baptist Health facilities qualified for the award by demonstrating how the organization has committed to improving quality care.

“These awards show Baptist Health’s commitment to caring for those in their community who need stroke care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, chair of the American Heart Association Quality Oversight Committee and chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern Medicine. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, Baptist Health can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families, and communities.”
