Over the last several years, endoscopic spine surgery has started to be utilized more for complex spine conditions. Sang Lee, an orthopaedic spine surgeon, highlights a couple of complex spine condition case studies and explains the use of endoscopic spine surgery in each case. Endoscopic spine surgery has many benefits, such as a smaller incision site, less tissue damage and blood loss, minimal surgical pain, and earlier recovery.

Hi, I'm Dr Lee, a spine surgeon at Johns Hopkins Orthopedic Surgery. I'm gonna talk about the complex and this Coptic spine surgeries more than simple disc surgeries. I have nothing to disclose late to this topic. And this Coptic spine surgeries have been for simple disc surgeries, but we have MAWR conditions like Recurrent s Carnation or trust spine disc. And the Spanish tennis is more commonly and some patiently the spine fusion procedures for the last several years. And this Coptic spine surgeries have started to cover this kind of complex conditions. Let me show you several cases. This is a recurrent desk. Our nation conventional approach is going back again. Opened the muscle, the limb of the bone and ligament and joint and taking a desk out. Sometimes we need the fusion surgery because of extensive born resection. But we did. And this copy approach. It's not going to the back again. Instead, we access the spine from the outside on the shape of the bone from the outside of the spine on and expose the nervous and this carnation very safely. And this is a surgical video, the operating room, so it can visualize that there's Carnation and Norbert. Very well. So these are the pictures showing the rupture disc fragment and the skin incision, the old midline skin incision and the new endoscopic seven millimeter incision. The next case is thrust. Find this carnation eight and nine. It's a pinching spotted coat here. Traditional procedure is going to meet Ryan, open the muscle, cutting the regiment and born remen at me and put screws infusions. But with a small, narrow walking sleep with endoscopic procedure, we could access the this carnation and spinal could well on. We could accomplish that spinal cord very safely without extensive exposure or some such confusion procedures. Okay. And this is the skin incision is, uh, a little bit up center of the spine with seven millimeter working incision. This patient has lumbar spinal stenosis with rupture. Desk is about migration. This is Marie. We did. The endoscopic decompression procedure is ah, identical to the open procedure. Like Raman active me of ah and below on the compression of the ligaments compressing the nerve structure, the center part Andi, until we make a good decomposition is a same lycopene reconnecting procedure and you can access all the way out to the other side of the spine, and we can limit the desk condition and framing of the competition until we can see the no brought into the other side. So in terms of meticulously competition, this is better than open convention or the accomplished procedure. So this is a neighborhood on the other side? Andi, uh, this is the inter operative X rays being shows that we can access to the other side of spine very nicely. The last case is Ah, this patient has a big desk, our nation with underlying severe spinal stenosis, but need the fusion surgery because unstable at 45 joint. So with endoscopic approach, we can finish. The decompression procedure is that is also very similar, like open procedure. But everything is done by seven millimeter working slave with the endoscopic, so cutting the bonus sperm and the ligament and any structure is pushing the nervous structure, and we can finish the decomposition, then clean the pews in bed and placed the screws and cages and bone graft to finish the fusion process on. Uh, this is the living with the disc material. And this the search Korean decision in one inch on both sides. Okay, this is still showing the decompression procedure within the skull. So now we can visualized nervous structure. Very well. Okay. It shows good decompression. And the scrapping spine surgery has very strong advantages, like smallest skin incision, police tissue damage and blood. Ross on the minimal search campaign and early recovery. And these are not sour grapes anymore. With modern, advanced endoscopic surgical techniques. We'll do the best to provide the highest level of spine care at Johns Hopkins. If you or your patient need more information or have any questions, you can contain my information. We can provide more information in detail. Thank you very much.
